Starting your own Airgun Business

This is an old report I wrote in the 1990s for my magazine Airgun Revue. Only before I’ve posted it on this blog, but it was and it’s got buried years ago. We have so many new writers, so there is still much to say about the novel, so I’m dusting and revising it today.

Following years of working at an engineering firm, some of the younger engineers ‘ personal dream was to leave the company to establish their own businesses. The company is one and out of a million start-ups I saw in the 1980s I know of another.

That is why, IN EVERY CASE, the businesses who died had no clear idea what they did or what they wanted to do. A year after I left the company and went into desktop publishing with my partner, my former boss left his own business the saddest a. He leased office space, had made a sign for the entrance, had office lighting, chairs and telephones and had paperwork printed. He was waiting then.

One day, I got a call and my former boss told me how I could do it. Without any economic opportunities, he had started a business and no idea how to get it! It’s an unfair decision, because I can admit I don’t know how the company works first. I could not do anything for him except hope that when the savings from his income and borrowed money run out, he could find a job. Yet perhaps I can support some of you.
Why does this happen? Clear— you want best benjamin airguns, and rather than… Ok, you want to work with them all day.

This is an ancient story. One decides that they don’t like their work and that they want to do something else. It is a story without age, class or place in life. It is a tale. Okay, before you move — good idea, check things out! You know that some are doing well and others are struggling in the field that you want to enter.

TIP #1

People will always struggle

In any field, this is valid at all times. During the Great Depression good people have done very well, but their stories are never heard because they do not conform to the trend we anticipated.
I have airgun companies right now that say the market is down for me, that no one is buying. You can always succeed or fail, just remember. What will you do?

Ironically, this is where other people decide to close their eyes and pray it’s a crap shoot. It is as good as everybody else’s chances. We fall into inventories a bunch of money and so to speak, “take off their shingles.” They take one or two ads and wait until the world breaks its door. It never does! It never does! By mid-January, it is like having a lemonade stand on the curb! Their money and stamina has run out within 6 months to 2 years, airguns purchase their stocks at the fire level–then they look at model trains, fly-tying or divorce procedures.
But some people have felt that the REAL success path has to be trained. It will keep all the stores from selling the ordinary airguns and go for the exotic one. So, men, exotic things are going to happen ONLY. You’ll discover something special as you turn around enough blocks. Perhaps people want something else. You’re sure, new toys?
It’s not always healthy, the trouble with others is. Other is terrible also. Perhaps, someone else finds you rediscover before and decided to leave it alone. You will know why if you observe it.

TIP #2

It has to be good

It doesn’t suffice to be different; it must also be healthy. I help more people, as aspiring airgun inventors still carry their innovations and inventions to me in the expectation that they will be a little promoted. Most of these new things are so off-the-shelf that unless I inquire, I never mention them. This post is a guide, though, so here is an example of a concept that has come to me for many years. A man called me, and told me he had discovered a secret source of energy that would increase the power of any aircraft EIGHT TIMES.

As I asked if the speed or muzzle energy was eight times greater, he seemed confused. In a short conversation, I found that man had no idea how the power of an airgun–or anything else–is calculated. He only knew that he was eight times able to increase airgun efficiency. He will come back to me with a product to test as soon as he had all his patent protections. 20 years later today, I’m still waiting, I’m still waiting. There are many other tales about creations by cockamamies, but it’s all right.

Okay, how about price competition? Yeah, okay. Why never was It done! If you will compete on a price, first read the autobiography of Sam Walton–then visit a Walmart or Sam’s Club and find the best possible thing wrong.

What am I saying? What do I mean? Observe competition on the market, I presume. It was done. It was done.
I once saw a person buy guns from an airgun store for a discount, then sell them for LESS THAN HE PAID FOR THEM! He was dreaming of drumming company! Like the market jumpstart. What he is trying to do is to pump up the online guy!
The secret casinos in Las Vegas rarely close is that they never lose money. Sure, be stupid enough, and under any conditions you will lose money, but the casinos are not foolish. The dumb ones are no longer open.
